UPDATE #7

We are about to report about the topics that are assigned to us, and these are Student Services, Research, and Community Service. We are currently finalizing our ideas and putting them together. Also, we are trying our best to make our presentation awesome and full of juice.

At the same time, we are researching for our project. We are gathering as much sources as we need and as much references we need in order to make our project, again, full of juice.

1. The vision of CCS is to become the premiere college that would provide knowledge in computer science that would be recognized globally. I guess this vision is awesome because CCS wants to go beyond borders and spread their high quality education. They want to be know globally as providers of high levels of knowledge when it comes to Computer Science.
The mission of CCS is to produce students who will, in the future, become leaders in technical domains. This mission for me is then again awesome 'cos CCS aims to nurture it's students into "gods" of computer science. In other words, masters of the course.

2. What I can say about the idea of transfering CCS to La Salle Canlubang is that for me that idea should be a myth or only a theory because I know that alot of people would start rallies in order to stop the transfering of CCS to a different place. One of the reasons why is because we students of CCS would somewhat be isolated. We don't want that.

The college of computer studies produce graduates who are not only masters of their expertise, but also very well versed in other fields of professions. I think the keyword of the mission and vision of CCS is "Adapt". Granted that the world's technology is fast updating, graduates have the capability of adapting to the advances in technology. This unique characteristic makes lasallians a quality graduate even after school years.

It's all gonna be downhill for my college plan if we get transferred to DLSU-canlubang. i might be forced to transfer universities to cut costs on transportation. it might be the case that it is for the BETTER, but i am nothing but BITTER by the idea of it. If the purpose is for research and leakages to world-known companies, it should have been just voluntary for the students to go to canlubang and improve on their know-hows and practice their knowledge in OJT's at the future techno hub there. i wish the best for De La Salle Universities goal towards a university known for their research and leakages to companies but i also hope that they consider the students welfare as well.

Update #6

We are currently trying to bring more and more information about our assigned topics for the presentation so that we would have a fruitful lecture. We are searching for videos, so that we are not limited to only the PowerPoint presentation.

Topic: Student Services, Research, and Community Service

Since we are assigned 3 topics, we want to maximize our time in order to deliver these topics in which our classmates would understand.

We are also brainstorming on what our project proposal will be. We are already starting to search for people that may help strengthen are project. As soon as we decide on what our proposal will be.

1. The College of Computer Studies vision is focusing on creating student who has lasallian values and have the skills and qualities that will help in national development and social welfare, which i think is a very good purpose for educating young minds. The College of Computer Studies Mission to develop each in every student into professionals, with qualities in leadership and skills that can make them easily adapt to our changing world. This mission is great because it actually makes every student continue learning even after they graduated because students are taught to adapt. Also, the mission suggest inspiration and motivation, this is essential for success.

2. I COMPLETELY DISAGREE to the proposal of transferring the College of Computer Studies to Lasalle Canlubang. It is not convenient. The college of computer studies is one of the assets of DLSU, they should nurture it not get rid of it. DLSU taft is much more convenient in terms o transportation and resources.  CCS Students should be exposed to what's happening in the real world and not be kept in a far place. Students should have hands on experience and at the same time, learning how to deal with the busy streets. It is MUCH MORE WISER to keep the College of Computer Studies in DLSU taft.

1. For me, the College of Computer Studies' Vision is really precise, because it talks about what the College would want to be in the near future and what they would want to contribute, globally. And for me, it's just not having a clear picture of what would happen in the future that makes their Vision good, it's also the College's ability to succeed in it. On the other hand, I could say that the College of Computer Studies' Mission is also good because it clearly provides an overview of the goal and purpose of the College, like training the students to adapt to the fast changing technologies and environments.

2. For me, the idea of transferring the Science and Technology Campus from Manila to Canlubang is not good at all. Since ONE of the many reasons why most of the students chose to pursue their studies in this campus is because of its location and the ease of transportation.

Update #5

Last Friday (October 22, 2010) we attended an IS Seminar which was conducted by groups of students from Catch 2T11 and 2T12. Over-all, the seminar was really helpful for us especially for creating/conducting our proposals in the near future. We have also learned a lot of tips from them, like tips on how to be more productive as a group and how to properly divide the tasks to each member of the group.

Besides the IS Seminar that we have attended, we are also on the process of researching and making our group report.

Update #4

We are already done with the research paper. We did our best in our research paper in terms of the software and processes.

Our paper's introduction states:

"In our project, we are assigned to a particular coverage of processes shich is Education Delivery-Educational Support Services. So we focused on the processes that will best help our project. These processes are Course Scheduling, Enrollment, Dropping of Courses, Applying for Special Classes, Shifting, Applying for Leave of Absence(LOA), Library Services, Reservation of Equipment, and Transferees."

As you see, we tried our best to be able to gather information. We got the information from the heads of the IT department in CEU and Asia Pacific College. We all went there and interviewed them regarding their processes and softwares. It was unfortunate that we weren't able to conduct an interview in Manila Doctors College, but we interviewed a student there and we researched on their site regarding the processes.

We will then research on our presentation on November 10, 2010, so that we will be prepared and we will be able to give enough information to the class regarding our topic :RESEARCH, COMMUNITY SERVICE. AND STUDENT SERVICES.

This weekend, we will already start the research and also the first part of our project.

Update #3

Our group already researched about the schools. This morning, we were able to  make Ms.Jane sign a "letter of request for interview" ro be given to the other school tomorrow morning. We just hope that we will are able to successful schedule our interview with the school. But, to be sure, we will be emailing th schools now, so that if there's a chance, we will be able to know ahead. We also studied for our project, and know which educational processes and software we should be working on. We addressed our "letter of request for interview" to the IT department of the school so we can be able to also identify the information systems.

Our letter states:

To Information Technology Department of Asia Pacific College,

Greetings!

We are BS Computer Science with specialization in Instructional Systems Technology Sophomores in De La Salle University and we would very much appreciate being able to meet on afternoon of October 18, 2010, Monday, to discuss about the Information Systems and Processes of your school.

In our course EDUPROC(Educational Processes), the objective is that we get to learn concepts about business and educational processes. We were tasked to do a research paper about schools that use information systems to support their educational processes and provide a detailed description of the schools’ processes and systems with emphasis on how the information systems are used. We would really be grateful if you can a lot a short period of time to for us. We prepared a questionnaire so that it would be as brief as possible, so that we wouldn’t be taking sp much pf your time.

Thank you for your time and we that you would consider our request. God bless!

Comment on the "Pottermania Strains the Supply" by Julia King

Information Technology is reshaping the business processesof publishers, booksellers, and delivery companies in such a way that it is alot easier when IT is in the picture. Like what the article said, upon releasing another book from the Harry Potter series, it set a wild fire of customers wanting to get a copy of that book. It is very evident that it is easier because when the publisher posted that there is a new book, people started going to Amazon to do all the transactions there. IT is of great help to booksellers and delivery companies because all of the transactions are being done electronically or online. It would be of less hassle for both parties. The only draw back is that that wild fire of customers caused both companies stress because of the mass of people ordering and wanting that book all at the same time, but it was also a good thing because the income of both parties would just keep on flowing.

1. Supply Chain Management

My way of understanding supply chain management is that it is the management of a network that is interconnected with businesses. Or, it is also the management of assets and relationships that transforms a customer's product from raw to a finished product.

2. Customer Chain Management

Customer chain management, from what i understood, is the management of a network that is interconnected with customers. It is the management of people or customers that help the business stay alive. These customer chains are the ones that help the business running, and also help improve the business.

3. E- Commerce

E-Commerce from what i understood is somewhat like E-Learning, where in E-Learning you learn stuff electronically. While in E-Commerce you market things electronically. One example of E-Commerce is Ebay, where in you do all transactions online or electronically.

4. Enterprise Resource Planning

Also known as ERP, for me is an integration of business management practices and modern technology. This basically is the core of businesses, which manages and maintains the flow of information in and out of businesses and also other things connected with the business .

E-commerce- it is Electronic commerce, which basically just means electronic transactions. Ebay, amazon, and other websites that allows the customers to buy and sell products or services through the internet or any other electronic sources.

Enterprise resource planning-Is a system in a business that basically manages the over-all resources within the company. It maintains and manages the flow of information through out business processes and other business functions. It also manages the outside stakeholders. It is a computer system with a centralized database that unites business operations and make an organized enterprise environment.

ANSWERS:

PONCE, Pauleen S.

1. Supply Chain Management - upon hearing this term, the first thing that came into my mind is "supplier". Based on our definition of supplier, they are the ones responsible for furnishing the output according to the requirements of the process owner. So supply chain management would be managing the raw materials as well as the money that they will be needing in order to provide a quality work for their customers.

2. Customer Relationship Management - customer relationship management is all about establishing a good connection with your customers. Since communication plays a major role in establishing a good relationship, business owners must provide a good way for the customers to communicate with them, for this is a good way for customers to provide them with their feedback.

3. e-Commerce - doing your business transactions over the Internet (online), like buying or selling of goods, online banking and many more.

4.  ERP - it is a system that helps an organization to completely monitor and manage their business processes starting from the planning stage up to the distribution stage.

Customer relationship management- is a broad term that covers the management of all aspects of a company's interaction with customers, as well as the capture, storage and analysis of customer information

E-commerce- is the buying and selling of goods and services on the Internet, especially the World Wide Web.

Update #2

We are now currently planning our time line in making all the requirements for EDUPROC. We want to be as productive with our time as possible so we are planning ahead. We are planning to take interviews and surveys as a mode of getting information. But for that to be successful we should be able to plan ahead and create questions and permissions to set up appointments.

So we now are currently focused on the research paper that will be submitted on October 20. We are still on the process of researching on the schools we chose. For example, we want to interview the library personnel of CEU regarding the process of borrowing books, since tehy provide contact details of the staff in their site, it will be easier for us to get the neccesary information for our research paper.

By doing this research paper, it will be easier for us to benchmark for our project. If there are good processes from the schools we chose that we can use it will be very helpful for our project. Although now the concept of the project is not that concise yet, we are slowly getting there and slowly forming the concept we intend for our project.

I will be creating a file in the google docs so that we will be able to compile our researches and see the researches of our other teams as well. So we all can see how the research is coming up and we can all be knowledgeable of the content.

WHAT WE WILL NOT DO IN DOING OUR RESEARCH PAPER:D

Seminar on Total Quality Management

Bernard Tan S22
I had the best time listening to Mr. Molano's talk today. This was probably the first time i had dedicated my full attention in a seminar. His definition of what quality really meant gave me a whole new perspective about quality. My understanding of quality is that it is effective and efficient. The presentation was well thought out, leaving no contradicting statements and fully supporting each idea. I was hit by amazement as he puts humor into the monotonous reality. This fun factor of his talk made it more captivating to the audience of young learners, his strategy of mixing a dash of laughter can truly catch one's attention and involuntarily makes them absorbent as a sponge. By effectively "hooking up" the students with his jokes, most of the key points was fully grasped and not a minute was wasted by mere chatter. I definitely would like to hear him talk again in the near future because he himself is a great example of a quality speaker. This talk served to me as a refresher to wake up and start being productive and maintain it until i reach my goal of becoming a CS-IST graduate. :)

Seminar on Total Quality Management

PONCE, Pauleen S. ☺
Mr. Molano's seminar about Total Quality Management was excellent. The power point presentation was well-prepared and the way he discussed things was really good and was organized. He also knows how to get the attention of his audience and knows how to keep them listening. By the end of this seminar, I have learned a lot of things from him which would serve as a motivation for me (as a CCS-IST student) and which I would apply on my career as a future IST Professional. From this seminar, I have learned that QUALITY is NOT only just about the output of all our hard works, but it also deals with how we have done it. For quality is doing something right using the RIGHT WAY. And total quality on the other hand is all about going beyond the expectations.

As a future IST Professional, I could say that for every project or task that we will be doing in the near future, we should always remember that we should not stop on what we have accomplished because there is always something better that we could do and that we should always keep in mind -- TOTAL QUALITY-- for every task that  we will be doing in order to satisfy ourselves and to satisfy other people.

Total Quality Management Seminar Feedback

Thomas Caja
I attended a seminar this morning about Total Quality Management, which was led by Mr. Molano. At first I was lazy to attend that seminar because I am not used to waking up early on a friday morning. But when I came into the room and the speaker started talking and teaching, my mood changed. Mr. Molano for me is an excellent speaker. Why? Because when he talks, there are no dragging parts in his talk. Also, he can keep the audience's attention until the end of his seminar. He is very good in teaching the subject, and he really knows what he is talking about. He is interesting too because he can fit humor into his teachings. His humor makes
the audience become more attentive to what he is teaching, at the same time helping us understand more about the subject.

In his talk, i was able to understand what true quality means, what it takes to get true quality, and the effects of attaining total quality in our lives and in everything we do.

Feedback on Total Quality Management Seminar

Luisa Baarde S22
Today's talk about Total Quality Management was one of the most fun and substantial talk that I've ever attended. There wasn't a time in the talk that my attention wasn't captured. Mr. Molano truly was successful at his objective to make us understand total quality, and how we can apply it to ourselves. I really don't usually take down notes during talks, but this talk really was very helpful and very substantial, that it is really useful for my self betterment. Mr. Molano is a great educator, he mixes humor with information that really makes the talk interesting. He's stories really has a moral and really is related to the topic. Mr. Molano really is a quality teacher. I want to take him as my Professor in one of my future courses in my degree program.

The talk over-all was a success, i was able to understand what total quality is, and how do i achieve it. As a student i will take the tips that Mr. Molano suggested. I will try my best to be a quality student. :)

Start.

Ma. Pauleen Arantxa Ponce

1. What do you think is the relevance of the course to you as a future IST professional?
Based on my own interpretation about the course. Eduproc will be helpful for us in the near future, in designing and implementing educational tools and such. And personally, I think that through this course, we will be able not just to design and implement, but to enter into the business side of the profession as well (like making up our own business).

2. What do you expect to learn/get from the course? What can you contribute to the class so that everyone's learning experience will be enriched?
I expect that from this course, I will be able to explore more and understand more what is in store for me as a future IST Professional.

The things that I could contribute for the class are, my attention as well as proper behavior. Because for me, paying attention would motivate others to listen as well and it is one way to show our respect for the professor. And behaving properly would help others to learn more effectively.

3. Comment on the following: "I don't want to learn about technology; I just want to be good at my job."
"I don't want to learn about technology, I just want to be good at my job". For me, this does not actually makes sense. Since our profession deals with technology and how we would deal in its continuous advancements and changes, it is somehow impossible to be good at this job without having prior knowledge about technology.

Maria Luisa Baarde

1. What do you think is the relevance of the course to you as a future IST professional?
I think taking this course is crucial for someone taking my course. Having to be aware of the business processes and educational processes, it will give me awareness and a head start in the future because i would be knowledgeable of the set up of the company i would be working on. It is basically widening our knowledge about how businesses and schools or other educational institution works.

2. What do you expect to learn/get from the course? What can you contribute to the class so that everyone's learning experience will be enriched?
I expect to learn more about the terms and concepts being used in the business and educational proccesses. Also, i would be well knowledgeable to how these processes works.  I would contribute my participation and interest so that we would have fruitful class lectures.

3. Comment on the following: "I don't want to learn about technology; I just want to be good at my job."
The phrase is a phrase that would be used by people who likes to outcast themselves from society. Nowadays, almost everything is based on technology, almost all jobs requires knowledge about technology, it would be hard to work or even understand what's happening without the use of technology. It might be hard for someone who doesn't know any gadget based on technology because they are being left by our chaging world.
Thomas Caja
1. What do you think is the relevance of the course to you as a future IST professional?
I guess the relevance of EDUPROC to IST is that EDUPROC will somehow teach me how to do a process step by step. I need to learn how to do that step by step process in order for me to accomplish my tasks as an IST student.

2. What do you expect to learn/get from the course? What can you contribute to the class so that everyone's learning experience will be enriched?
From this course, i expect that, yeah, this course will teach me how to do a process step by step, and also this course maybe will teach me how to be patient and have to be more perseverant in accomplishing a task. I guess one thing that i can contribute to the class is that i can show them that I am really working hard to get a high grade in this course, and maybe they will get motivated to do so.

3. Comment on the following: "I don't want to learn about technology; I just want to be good at my job."
That statement for me is wrong because how can you be good at a certain job if that job requires you to use technology but you dont want to learn about technology. It just sounds stupid. Also, technology these days are in great demand, so that statement is nonesense.
Bernard Tan
1. What do you think is the relevance of the course to you as a future IST professional?
i think the relevance of this course to me as an IST professonal is that this will be one of my important assets to be able to execute my projects properly and successfully.

2. What do you expect to learn/get from the course? What can you contribute to the class so that everyone's learning experience will be enriched?
i expect to learn some management skills and project planning skills. i can contribute my good class behaviour so that my classmates can have a good class ambience that is comfortable to study in.

3. Comment on the following: "I don't want to learn about technology; I just want to be good at my job."
the said statement is impossible to achieve in the field of an IST professional, technology itself is a major component of the profession. easier said than done, i believe that "knowing is half the battle."
